Steel raised the bar of performance for steel shot waterfowl loads. It is a slow-burn rate powder - even a bit slower than Blue Dot, which has traditionally been the favorite of steel shot loaders. This slow burn rate makes it the most consistent when used with heavier loads. In recent years, Steel has found a new use with tungsten-based pellets, and other high-performance non-toxic hunting loads. Like Unique, Steel is also very fluffy. Alliant Powder recommends that Steel be scaled. It cannot be dropped through bushings.

| Been loading steel shot for many years, and have used several powders. Steel is the top choice in my opinion for this purpose, if you can find it. | ||

| Nothing really comes close in comparison. If you look at the pressure curves over time for ANY particular load w/ STEEL, its nice and flat. For this reason, it acts like a very smooth, longitudinally burning powder -the plateau like pressure/time curve has excellent area under curve-, resulting in really excellent efficiency of projectile speed versus pressure. But for this same reason, smaller loads, packed with more powder, tend to result in unburnt propellant. This makes it a relatively safe powder to use. But I cannot fathom why alliant chooses to make other powders, stock those powders up on shelves, and ignore the fact that for the last 2 years its been nearly impossible to find this powder. | ||

| I have reloaded my waterfowl loads with Alliant Steel for over two decades now. And believe me I have looked high and low for an equivalent because Steel has become so hard to get, but there isn’t anything even close to this powder. I do auto measure each load because of the light flakey consistency of Steel, but it’s worth the time and effort. My loads seldom wound almost always drop a bird dead and extend my effective range beyond any other powder on the market. My only gripe is Alliant please double your production so we can get better access. | ||

| Alliant Steel beats the others, hands down. Consistent, reliable loads that will knock down what you aim at. Many geese have fallen in front of this load. An added plus, there is very little if any residue left in my barrel. | ||

| I reload a 3.5 1800 fps shell with 1 and 1/8 I fill I can kill a goose at 80 yards if not 90 yards.I love that load for geese but it does hurt when you pull the trigger. | ||

| I also have loaded allot of 12ga 1oz #3 loads and there just fantastic at 1770 fps I used 10 lbs so far and waiting for the 4lb caddy to come back in stock. | ||

| I have heard a complaint or two about this powder. I have loaded 16 pounds of it so far and I honestly have had nothing but great results. I load 1 ounce 1700 fps shells that knock the bloody murder out of ducks and geese. I would have laughed at a one ounce load 4 or 5 years ago. I stand proud to say these are no joke!!!!! | ||
