Detailed Description

GAEP BN1 Crimp Finisher 10ga

This is a rotational finishing crimper for folded star crimps. After the star crimp has been formed and set, this rotational Crimp Finisher beautifully forms the top edges of the cartridge and flattens the top portion of the crimp. The result is a lovely factory-style radius taper on the top lip of the crimp. Use with the Universal Arbor (sold separately) for hand drill or drill press along with a Hull Vise. Also for use in GAEP loading machinery. GAEP tools, unlike BPI's Roll Crimpers, perform better at higher RPMs. Apply a little Ballisti-Slick to the rim of the cartridge prior to using the crimp finisher for optimal performance.

This extra tapering step produces a smooth, professional finish to your cartridge. The BN series crimp finishers are even specialized for crimps of differing powder burn rates:

  • BN1 Crimp Finisher: Optimal use is with fast burn-rate powders such as those used in 7/8 to 1 oz. shot loads. Ideal for trap cartridges, trail hunting, skeet.
  • BN2 Crimp Finisher: Optimal use is with medium burn-rate powders such as those used in 1 to 1-1/8 oz. shot loads. The most common GAEP crimp finisher.
  • BN3 Crimp Finisher: Optimal use is with medium-to-slow burn-rate powders such as those used in 1-1/8 to 1-1/4 oz. loads, but is universally usable for all payloads.
  • BN4 Crimp Finisher: Optimal use is with very progressive, slow burn-rate powders such as those used in 1-1/4 oz. loads or heavier. Excellent for heavy field and magnum slug loads.

All BN Series crimp finishers can also be used as roll crimpers and operate best at faster RPMs than the standard roll crimper. We recommend running your drill press at 1100 RPMs for maximum efficiency.*

* IMPORTANT NOTE ON RPM: GAEP crimp heads are optimized for operation at 1100 RPM, which is the standard speed for their motors. Many hand drills and some drill presses do not reach this rotational speed. If you experience crimping issues with GAEP products, the first step is to verify that you are operating at the correct speed.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY:

The shotshell industry of Northern Italy is likely the oldest in the world. With the founding of major gun manufacturers, such as Beretta in 1526, cottage industry businesses sprang up around these areas. Gunsmiths, toolmakers, and ammunition specialists of all types helped to fuel innovation and invention. Like Italian cuisine, art, and architecture, ammunition and toolmaking are powered by passion and innovation. We are proud to be GAEP's appointed distributor of their fine loading products for North America. Our line of GAEP products will continue to grow and expand.
