LOAD OF THE WEEK

TSS: Cheddite 10ga 3.5” & BP1044

We hear you, ten-gauge shooters! This edition of LOTW is all about the “Mighty Ten” and TSS.

Why It Works: The BP1044 wad is crafted from our specialized TPS material, offering unmatched wall strength. Thinner than our standard TPS wads and featuring four convenient slits, it’s designed for optimal performance. We recommend using a Thin Mylar wrap (#MYTHIN) in the cup to minimize pellet escape.

Straight TSS loads are not only easier to load but also more consistent, making them our preferred choice over duplex loads. The BP1044’s robust energy-absorbing cushion section and TPS material are ideal for these loads. The cushion reduces shotcup volume while providing a pressure-reducing “shock absorber” effect.

In our test loads, we used TSS #6 and a 12ga ¼” Cork Wad at the base of the shotcup. Keep in mind that smaller shot sizes, crimp depth, and wad seating pressure will influence how many Cork Wads you should use. For smaller shot sizes, you might need to add an extra 1/8” Cork wad for optimal performance.

You, the reloader, must be absolutely meticulous with exact charge weights and proper loading procedures. Because of its density, even a single tungsten pellet can disrupt the integrity of these loads. Our Tungsten Manual is coming soon, but we strongly urge you to read and understand the similar lessons and warnings in The Status of Steel before embarking on any tungsten-based shotshell loading. If you are a beginner, then do NOT start here. You MUST use a scale.  NO SUBSTITUTIONS; the result of any substitution is an untested load.
